Job Description

The organisation is a health care non-governmental organisation working to improve immunisation equity and reduce poor vaccine coverage among rural African communities in Nigeria. Its work focuses on reaching zero-dose and under-immunized children, strengthening community trust in vaccines, supporting primary health care delivery, and collaborating with public health authorities and local leaders to ensure that every eligible child has access to life-saving vaccination services.

The CBO Coordinator will provide visionary, ethical, and results-oriented leadership for the organisation. The role holder will guide strategy, mobilize resources, strengthen partnerships, supervise programme delivery, and ensure that the organisation remains accountable to communities, donors, government partners, and the Board of Directors. The Executive Director will champion a community-led approach that addresses the social, cultural, logistical, and health-system barriers that prevent rural families from accessing routine immunisation.

Key Responsibilities

He/She will lead the organisation’s strategic planning process and translate the mission into clear annual priorities, measurable programme targets, and practical implementation plans. They will represent the organisation with government agencies, donors, traditional and religious leaders, community groups, health workers, and peer organizations, ensuring that the NGO is recognized as a credible and trusted partner in vaccine equity.

The role holder will oversee programme implementation in rural and hard-to-reach communities, including community mobilization, vaccine demand generation, caregiver education, health worker support, referral systems, and monitoring of immunisation outcomes. They will ensure that programmes are culturally appropriate, gender-responsive, evidence-informed, and aligned with national and state immunisation priorities.

The coordinator will also lead fundraising and financial sustainability. This includes identifying funding opportunities, cultivating donor relationships, approving grant proposals, supervising grant compliance, and ensuring transparent financial management. They will work closely with the Board of Trustees to strengthen governance, risk management, safeguarding, and organizational integrity.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Public Health, Social Sciences, Health Education, Community Development, or related field.
Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in immunization, PHC, community health, or development programs.
Experience working with NGOs, CBOs, or donor-funded health projects preferred.
Experience working in immunization programming at LGA, Ward and PHC level at community level is a must.
Strong understanding of RI, PHC systems, and community engagement approaches.
Experience in training of community level volunteers, engagement of local leaders for improved service uptake is key.
Strong competency in supportive supervision, training, and coordination of field teams is key.
Good report and data management skills is mandatory.
Ability to work in difficult, underserved, and hard-to-reach areas.
